Background/Overview:
Purpose
This post is for a physical scientist to combine geophysical observations and satellite remote sensing from the Larsen C Ice Shelf to understand the evolution of the firn layer. This post is part of an NWO-funded scientific project (Evolution of the Larsen C firn layer: a multi-decadal record of ice shelf vulnerability to atmospheric warming) in collaboration with the Institute of Marine and Atmospheric Research Utrecht (IMAU), Northumbria University, and Delft University of Technology. The postholder will lead the BAS contribution to this work, which will mainly focus on the analysis of radar and satellite datasets to understand physical changes to the Larsen C firn layer over the last several decades. Outputs from the BAS work will feed into state-of-the-art climate and firn models to project the vulnerability of the ice shelf to atmospheric warming over the coming century.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
