About the Role
- Suitable for: Aspiring teachers, future ECTs, and graduates looking to progress onto teacher training (PGCE, Schools Direct, or salaried routes)
- Support provided: Mentoring, guidance, and classroom experience for graduates preparing to qualify as teachers
- Key focus:
- Classroom experience across Key Stages 3 and 4
- First-hand teaching practice to strengthen confidence, skills, and subject expertise
- Full integration within a thriving secondary school committed to academic and personal development
Key Responsibilities
- Support teaching and learning by:
- Assisting with lesson preparation and classroom delivery
- Delivering targeted interventions to boost student confidence in Geography
- Working intensively with small groups or individual students to improve progress and meet potential
- Classroom assistance:
- Help manage behaviour and develop classroom routines
- Gain practical experience under direct guidance from senior staff
- Listen and learn alongside expert teachers to build foundational ECT skills
- Personal development:
- Strengthen communication skills and subject knowledge
- Build a professional network with supportive senior leaders

Requirements
- Essential:
- First Class (or equivalent) degree in Geography or closely related subject (e.g. Human Geography, Physical Geography, Environmental Science)
- Strong academic background and passion for teaching
- Excellent subject knowledge and ability to explain concepts clearly to students
- Desirable:
- Experience working with young people (e.g., tutoring, mentoring)
- Commitment to inclusion, supporting SEND (Special Educational Needs & Disability) students
- Essential traits:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and motivate students
- Commitment to pursuing a career in teaching
- Adaptability, resilience, and enthusiasm to learn in a classroom setting
