First Line Manager – Operations
Location: Rotherham
Reports To: Operations Manager
Shift: 2200 – 0630, Monday to Friday

#LRole Overview:
The First Line Manager oversees Supervisors and their teams, ensuring operational objectives are achieved. This role serves as a critical bridge between the Operations Manager and warehouse operations, translating strategy into actionable plans, optimising workflows, and driving continuous improvement.
#Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Leadership
- Manage daily warehouse operations (order picking, packing, inventory, dispatch)
- Oversee Supervisors in workload organisation, team coordination to meet daily targets
- Monitor workflow, prioritise tasks, and facilitate inter-departmental collaboration

2. Performance Management
- Track and report operational KPIs: pick accuracy, productivity, on-time despatch rates
- Review team performance regularly with Supervisors, identifying areas for improvement
- Address underperformance proactively; implement improvement initiatives aligned with company goals
3. Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with Supervisors and Operations Managers to optimise processes and reduce costs
- Drive lean methodologies to eliminate waste, enhance productivity, and refine SOPs
- Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regular updates
4. Health & Safety Compliance
- Enforce health and safety regulations; support Supervisors in conducting risk assessments and audits
- Ensure employee compliance with safe systems of work (SSOWs) and company policies
- Investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence
5. Team Development & Engagement
- Coach and mentor Supervisors, fostering effective leadership and autonomy
- Identify and develop high-potential employees with strong succession planning
- Foster open communication, collaboration, and an inclusive work culture
6. Resource & Workflow Management
- Monitor resource allocation and staffing levels; address shortages with recruitment teams
- Optimise warehouse space, equipment, and automation technology utilisation
- Collaborate with maintenance/engineering teams to resolve technical issues

#Qualifications & Experience
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Advantageous: Advanced certifications in logistics, supply chain management, or operations
Experience
- Extensive warehouse/distribution environment experience
- Minimum 2 years in a management/team leadership role
- Preferred: Automotive parts distribution or high-volume industry experience
Skills
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage and motivate teams
- Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Microsoft Office
- Analytical skills to interpret operational data and develop strategies
- Communication: Engage stakeholders across all levels
- Deep knowledge of health and safety standards and best practices
