Assistant Vice President for Risks and Controls

MUFG, a globally respected financial institution, is seeking an Assistant Vice President for Risks and Controls to join their Market and Securities Operations Services Risk and Control division in London. This role offers you the opportunity to be part of a dedicated First Line Risk and Control team, where your expertise will directly contribute to strengthening operational risk management across investment banking functions. You will work closely with knowledgeable colleagues in a supportive environment, collaborating across departments to ensure robust control frameworks and dependable processes. What You'll Do

  • Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of the First Line Risk & Control framework across Operations, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, monitored, and appropriately mitigated through collaborative efforts.
  • Maintain comprehensive risk and control inventories by documenting, assessing, and periodically reviewing key controls and associated business risks in partnership with cross-functional teams.
  • Perform detailed control assessments and gap analysis to identify weaknesses, recommend enhancements, and support remediation activities that nurture a dependable control environment.
  • Monitor and analyze operational risk indicators, performance metrics, and control effectiveness measures while escalating emerging risks and thematic issues in a timely manner.
  • Produce accurate management information, risk reporting materials, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and governance documentation for senior management forums.
  • Support Risk & Control Self-Assessments (RCSA), control testing, risk assessments, and other risk management activities in accordance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Investigate operational incidents, exceptions, audit findings, and control failures to identify root causes; track remediation actions; and support timely resolution through considerate communication.
  • Assist in managing and tracking issues, actions, and risk remediation plans while ensuring appropriate governance structures are maintained against agreed timelines.
  • Partner with Operations, Technology, Compliance, Operational Risk, and Change teams to strengthen the control environment through cooperative initiatives that drive continuous process improvement.
  • Support internal and external audits as well as regulatory reviews by providing accurate documentation, evidence, and subject matter expertise in a polite and responsive manner.

What You Bring

  • Strong product knowledge combined with front-to-back process understanding of investment banking operational flows enables you to connect effectively with stakeholders across departments.
  • Experience in issue management as well as control assurance testing equips you to support first line risk activities within Operations or comparable environments.
  • Demonstrable stakeholder management skills allow you to build dependable relationships based on trustworthiness and empathy.
  • Excellent time management abilities ensure you can handle large workloads while meeting tight deadlines without compromising accuracy or quality.
  • Reconciliation experience coupled with a deep understanding of reconciliation first principles helps you identify key risks along thematic lines.
  • Knowledge of securities trade lifecycle events—including derivatives trading—collateral funding for derivative/securities products as well as settlement pre-matching for fixed income/equity products is highly beneficial.
  • Strong analytical skills paired with attention to detail enable you to interpret data accurately; identify trends; communicate risks clearly; and support effective decision-making processes.
  • Familiarity with KRI/KPI reporting methods plus issue management/control testing ensures you can produce reliable governance materials for senior forums.
  • Understanding of RCSA processes allows you to participate fully in self-assessment activities aligned with regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills foster collaborative relationships within communal teams focused on nurturing supportive leadership.
