Salaried GP (Maternity Cover) | Leighton Buzzard
Background
This is a rare Salaried GP opportunity where clinical work comes without the usual weight of day-to-day admin and script chasing. A well-established Duty Team model absorbs the bulk of same-day demand, leaving GPs free to focus on patient care and their own clinical development. This fixed-term role covers a period of maternity leave, with genuine flexibility in how the sessions can be worked.
Location
The practice is based in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, a well-connected market town with a direct rail line into London. Milton Keynes is around twenty minutes’ drive, Dunstable around fifteen minutes, and Aylesbury around twenty five minutes, making the role accessible for candidates commuting from across a wide area.
The Practice
- PCN-lead practice for the local area, with genuine influence over how services are run across the network
- Two well-managed local care homes, with GPs rarely required to visit in person
- Strong partnership team, supported by a stable, experienced practice management team with senior members in post for well over a decade
- Strong staff retention, including a clinician who returned to the practice as a Salaried GP after a period of retirement
- Purpose-built premises with dedicated staff parking
- Mid-sized practice on a GMS contract
- CQC rated Good

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
