Fixed Term Senior Clinical Fellow
This new post presents an exciting opportunity for a Fixed Term Senior Clinical Fellow for 12 months from 2nd September 2026 until 7th September 2027 to join the established West Suffolk Foundation Trust, within Acute General Medicine. This post is being advertised as a fixed-term position due to current training gaps within the AMU, Respiratory, and Stroke departments.
Responsibilities
This role offers broad based experience within General Medicine, including responsibility for:
- Inpatient care
- Acute medical admissions
- Participation in the on call rota
- Supervision of junior Doctors, working closely within Consultant led teams
Job Description
- Providing general care at Registrar level to the patients admitted, including supervision of day-to-day management.
- Ward rounds
- To undertake appropriate investigations and therapeutic procedures under supervision if necessary.
- Training of junior colleagues
- Liaison with patient’s carers & relatives
- In case of any difficulties, ensure that advice is sought from a senior colleague.
- To take part in regular ward based audit programme
- To provide advice/supervision to trainees on adjacent ward when the registrar for that ward is absent
- Attend fortnightly outpatient clinics
- Review referrals to elderly department

Services
- The West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds provides acute and secondary care services (emergency department, maternity and neonatal services, day surgery unit, eye treatment centre, Macmillan unit and children's ward). It has 500+ beds and is a partner teaching hospital of the University of Cambridge.
- Adult and paediatric community services, provided in collaboration with West Suffolk Alliance partners, include a range of nursing, therapy, specialist, and ongoing temporary care and rehabilitation, some at our Newmarket Community Hospital.
