About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Fleet Manager to take ownership of a large and diverse council fleet, ensuring essential frontline services run safely, efficiently, and reliably every day. This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll shape how fleet services are delivered across the Council - with the opportunity to drive innovation, improve performance, and make a tangible difference to the lives of our residents.

As Fleet Manager, You Will:

  • Lead the strategic and operational management of a fleet of approximately 295 vehicles and plant.
  • Act as the Council’s O Licence holder, ensuring full compliance and safe vehicle operation.
  • Manage a significant capital programme.
  • Oversee fleet procurement, replacement programmes, maintenance, repairs and contracts.
  • Drive performance through data, telematics and continuous improvement.
  • Build strong relationships across services to maximise fleet utilisation and efficiency.
  • Lead and develop your team, creating a high-performing, customer-focused culture.

You’ll play a key role in shaping how the Council delivers services - ensuring our fleet is fit for the future.

About You

We’re seeking a driven and knowledgeable professional with:

  • A Transport Manager CPC and experience as an O Licence holder
  • Proven experience managing large, complex fleet operations
  • Strong background in fleet procurement, maintenance contracts and supplier management
  • Experience overseeing significant budgets and delivering value for money
  • A track record of leading service improvement, change and transformation
  • Excellent stakeholder management and the ability to influence across an organisation
  • Strong understanding of fleet compliance, safety, and regulatory requirements
