Flight Control Systems (FCS) Engineer – Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS)
About the Role
Prismatic is a technology development company specialising in the design, manufacture, and delivery of innovative, high-value aerospace products and systems. A subsidiary of BAE Systems, we are led by a technically and commercially focused team. Our cutting-edge systems—such as the high-altitude PHASA-35—combine commercial value, rapid development, and critical customer-centric solutions.
This Flight Control Systems (FCS) Engineer role focuses on the design, development, integration, verification, and validation of flight control laws and architectures for Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS), supporting fixed-wing, rotary-wing, or hybrid platforms for both autonomous and remotely piloted aircraft.
You will work through the full V-model lifecycle, from requirements capture to flight testing and certification, ensuring compliance with UK CAA, EASA, and airworthiness standards.
Key Responsibilities
Flight Control Design & Development
- Develop flight control laws (e.g., attitude, rate, navigation, and guidance loops) for UAS platforms.
- Design control architectures for autonomous and remotely piloted operations.
- Support sensor fusion inputs (e.g., IMU, GNSS, air data, vision-based navigation).
- Implement control algorithms in MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent model-based design tools.
Modelling, Simulation & Analysis
- Create and maintain 6-DOF nonlinear aircraft models.
- Conduct stability and control analysis, gain scheduling, and robustness studies.
- Perform Monte Carlo simulations and worst-case analysis.
- Support SIL (Software-in-the-Loop), PIL (Physics-in-the-Loop), and HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) testing activities.
Systems Engineering & Integration
- Translate system-level requirements into control system requirements.
- Interface with avionics, propulsion, mission systems, and ground control teams.
- Support integration of autopilots, flight computers, and actuators.
- Contribute to safety assessments (FHA, FMEA, FTA).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
