About the Role
As a Flight Operations Team Leader at Skyports, you will play a crucial role in our flight operations team. You will be responsible for operating advanced drone systems for drone delivery, surveying, and surveillance. Your expertise in remote piloting, adherence to aviation regulations, and commitment to safety will contribute to the successful execution of our missions.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, contribute to the development of operational procedures, and provide valuable insights and recommendations based on post-flight analysis.
Responsibilities
Operational Management and Safety Oversight
- Ensure the highest standards of safety and performance in training and operations
- Accountability for team output, confirming full competence and readiness of all team members
- Provide team members with proper equipment and gear for tasks in varying conditions
Operational Planning and Execution
- Infrastructure oversight: Supervise the setup and safety of Takeoff and Landing Points (TOLPs), assigning Hub Operator (HO) leads
- Conduct daily weather briefings with meteorological updates for the team
- Organise daily pre-deployment and operational briefings (morning/end-of-day)
- Execute detailed flight planning based on Skyports’ best practices and aircraft documentation

Maintenance and Technical Assurance
- Supervise maintenance activities (up to levels 1 and 2 if qualified)
- Oversee aircraft airworthiness, ensuring adherence to Skyports’ maintenance standards
Documentation and Compliance
- Enforce strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), aviation regulations, and safety laws
- Maintain accurate operational records via platforms like Centrik, ensuring compliance with documentation
Communication and Reporting
- Manage team communication channels for efficiency and protocol compliance
- Oversee prompt submission of occurrence reports by team members
Resource and Fatigue Management
- Plan team resource allocation to optimise utilisation and prevent overextension
- Monitor team fatigue levels and human factors to prioritise well-being
Operational Competency
- Remain currency-certified on at least one Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) platform
- Maintain familiarity with all operational areas to act as a qualified remote pilot when needed
Visitor Management and Briefing
- Provide comprehensive safety briefings to visitors, outlining hazards and emergency procedures
Requirements
- Certified Remote Pilot with commercial experience, preferably in BVLOS operations
- Proficiency in drone platforms, maintenance, and UAS systems integration
- Strong background in managing teams in high-pressure environments
- Experience with flight planning tools and mission software
- Knowledge of basic maintenance procedures, fleet documentation, and airworthiness processes
- Ability to oversee end-to-end field operations—including TOLP setup, crew briefings, and stakeholder communication
