Full-time Permanent Floating Support Worker – Merthyr Tydfil

About the Role

A Full-time, permanent position supporting individuals experiencing homelessness in the Merthyr Tydfil area. The role operates Monday–Friday, office hours, though flexibility is required to meet the needs of clients. A valid driving licence and access to a car are essential.

The Role in Detail

The Merthyr Floating Support Service directly addresses homelessness by providing practical support, guidance, and opportunities for those in crisis.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support individuals with complex needs in both temporary accommodation and their own homes
  • Conduct housing and support assessments, developing personalised plans for marginalised clients
  • Assist with resettlement, tenancy sustainment and ongoing behavioural and practical support
  • Collaborate with external agencies, signposting individuals to tailored services—especially mental health and treatment pathways
  • Work independently and as part of a team, managing your own caseload effectively
  • Navigate difficult, conflicting situations with empathy and professionalism
  • Maintain strong relationship-building skills to engage meaningfully with a diverse client base

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

✔ Relevant work experience in supporting vulnerable individuals, especially those experiencing homelessness ✔ Passion for making a tangible difference in people’s lives ✔ Strong initiative and ability to work both independently and collaboratively ✔ Excellent conflict-resolution and communication skills ✔ Capacity to signpost clients to specialist services (mental health, substance misuse, etc.) ✔ Must drive and possess access to a car for comprehensive community outreach
