Flood Risk Consultant

A Little More About Your Role…

At WSP, we are looking for a Consultant with experience in flood risk assessment to join our Sustainable Water Management team. Collaborate on technically complex flood risk assessment projects and seamlessly integrate into water environment technical areas—including flood risk modelling, LLFA techniques, flood management, Water EIA, WFD assessment, permitting applications, geomorphology, and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).

Your primary responsibility will be delivering Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) for major infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally, alongside broader involvement in flood modelling, flood management, and water environmental impact assessments. You'll also:

  • Share expertise by mentoring junior team members and fostering professional growth.

About the Team

The Leeds office operates within a thriving north-east and national water consultancy team of 350+ professionals who make an impact on major infrastructure projects, including those for:

  • Major clients: National Grid, Network Rail, National Highways
  • Local partners: Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFAs)
  • Projects: Bristol Heat Network, Cullompton Town Centre Relief Road

Work is allocated fairly and dynamically—balancing interests, developmental aspirations, and expertise to ensure meaningful contributions.

Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Leading FRA delivery: Carry out flood risk assessments, preparing specialist reports for multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Technical flexibility: Support sustainable drainage design, planning approvals, and Local Flood Risk Management Strategy development.
  • Fieldwork & investigations:
    • Conduct site surveys to gather baseline data.
    • Support Section 19 investigations.
  • Project management:
    • Oversee financial/types of modelling programmes.
    • Coach junior colleagues on technical responsibilities and client communication.
  • Collaborative engagement: Liaise with stakeholders (including internal teams and external clients) to align environmental objectives with project requirements.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
