Flood Risk Engineer / Water Engineer / Assistant Engineer

Purpose & Scope of the Role
As a Consultant or Engineer within our flood risk and water engineering team, you will support the delivery of a wide range of infrastructure and development projects across the UK. Working on schemes from £1m to £100m, you will contribute to flood risk solution design, hydraulic modelling, hydrology assessments, and drainage strategies including SuDS and natural flood management. You will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from early-stage optioneering and client engagement through to design delivery and project close-out, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting business growth activities.

You will play an important role in delivering effective, sustainable flood risk and drainage solutions that support resilient communities and infrastructure. Your technical input will help clients navigate complex planning and environmental requirements, while your collaboration and mentoring will strengthen team capability and project outcomes.

Core Capabilities
Technical Expertise - Experience in flood risk assessment, hydraulic modelling, hydrology and drainage design; Understanding of river and surface water flood risk, SuDS and natural flood management approaches Modelling & Digital Proficiency - Competence in tools such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office, Ability to support hydrological studies using UK methodologies (e.g. FEH) Project Delivery & Development - Experience contributing to projects from inception through to delivery; Ability to support project management activities and assist with bids and proposals Stakeholder Engagement & Communication - Strong report writing and presentation skills; Ability to engage with clients and multidisciplinary teams effectively Collaboration & Professional Growth - Team-oriented with the ability to mentor and support junior colleagues; Committed to continuous development and progression towards chartership
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Degree in a relevant discipline with experience in flood risk or water engineering. Working towards or holding chartership with ICE or CIWEM is desirable. UK project experience is essential, along with a full UK driving licence. Eligibility for SC clearance is advantageous.
Working Environment
This role can be based in Manchester, Leeds or London, with flexibility for other UK locations. Hybrid working is supported. Projects are UK-wide, so occasional travel and flexibility in working hours may be required.
