Flood Risk Modeller – Sustainable Water Management Team

We’re seeking Flood Risk Modellers to join our Sustainable Water Management Team and contribute to our national flood risk management programme. As part of our national fluvial and pluvial modelling team, you’ll shape critical initiatives spanning:
- FCERM studies
- Major infrastructure projects (energy, transport, government, water sectors)
- Strategic flood risk investigations
Your Impact in This Role
You’ll collaborate closely with our hydraulic modelling team to deliver flood risk management services for clients across government, local authorities, private sectors, and major infrastructure. Your work will oversee technical aspects of projects while fostering innovation in flood risk policy and practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement fluvial and pluvial hydraulic modelling using software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HECRAS, or ICM
- Lead or contribute to projects across a diverse client portfolio
- Scope and develop hydraulic modelling approaches
- Perform technical reviews of flood models for regulatory bodies
- Draft or assist with technical reports, presentations, and stakeholder communications
- Support business development efforts, writing proposals and identifying client opportunities
- Provide project/client relationship management and oversee financial & commercial aspects

About You
To succeed in this role, we’re looking for candidates who can demonstrate—or commit to developing—experience and skills in the following areas:
Essential Qualities & Experience
✔ A proven track record in fluvial and pluvial hydraulic modelling ✔ Technical leadership in flood modelling activities within multidisciplinary teams ✔ Regulatory experience, including model reviews for statutory clients (e.g. government, water agencies) ✔ Commercial acumen, with experience in bid preparation, project management, and financial oversight ✔ Ability to use diverse technical tools, including GIS and UK flood risk methods (NPPF, TAN15) ✔ Thrive in a client-facing environment and ability to drive business growth ✔ Strong written and verbal communication skills ✔ Commitment to achieving Chartership (ICIWBM, CIWEM, ChFMare etc.) or willingness to work toward it
Desirable Bonus
- Expertise in FCERM studies, flood risk assessments, and UK flood estimation methodologies
