About the Role
Join WSP’s Sustainable Water Management Team as a Flood Risk Modeller and contribute to national and innovative flood risk management projects. You’ll work on fluvial and pluvial modelling, deliver science-led solutions that mitigate flood risks, and enhance resilience across infrastructure, transport, water, and government sectors.
This technically challenging role offers leadership opportunities, working with diverse clients—from local authorities to major infrastructure firms—while collaborating with national hydraulic modelling experts.
What You’ll Do
Your responsibilities will include:

Technical modelling excellence:
- Conduct fluvial and pluvial flood modelling using software such as:
- Flood Modeller | TUFLOW | HEC-RAS | Infoworks Computational Modeller (ICM)
- Carry out scope, development, and oversight of hydraulic modelling techniques
- Lead or contribute to technical reviews of flood models (including for statutory bodies)
- Support report writing and stakeholder presentations (depending on experience)
- Conduct fluvial and pluvial flood modelling using software such as:

Project delivery & commercial engagement:
- Deliver or support groundbreaking FCERM studies, infrastructure projects, and strategic flood risk assessments
- Cooperate with hydraulics teams and multidisciplinary project groups
- Identify business development opportunities and draft proposals
- Manage project finances and client relationships (based on your experience level)

The Makeup of a Perfect Fit
We’re looking for proven expertise in flood modelling with commercial acumen, or an eagerness to grow in these areas. While prior experience is ideal, we’re open to well-motivated candidates eager to develop.
Essential Criteria

Hydraulic modelling track record:
- Proficient in fluvial and pluvial modelling (e.g., TUFLOW®, ICM, HEC-RAS, Flood Modeller)
- Hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and reviewing hydraulic models

Technical & regulatory fluency:
- Experience with Flood Risk Assessments or FCERM frameworks
- Familiarity with UK flood risk policy (National Planning Policy Framework, Technical Advice Note 15)

Project & commercial skills:
- Project management skills (including bids, finances, and stakeholder engagement)
- Ability to scope designs and challenge assumptions with leadership

Interpersonal acumen:
- Travel aptitude (industry-specific to requirements) or flexibility for site visits
Nice-to-Haves (Industry Knowledge)
- GIS proficiency
- Experience with Local Authority/National Government flood projects
- Active Chartership or working toward (with a relevant professional body)
- Familiarity with UK hydrological data sources (CEH, Met Office, Flood Estimation Service)
