About the Role
At WSP, we empower you to shape a career as unique as you are. Our Sustainable Water Management Team is seeking Flood Risk Modellers to drive our national programme of flood risk management. This role offers significant opportunities to lead and influence flood risk management projects, expand horizons through a global team, and collaborate with hydrology experts across the UK and Ireland.
Focus Areas
Our national fluvial and pluvial team delivers flood modelling for a broad range of clients, including:
- Strategic studies
- Major infrastructure projects (across energy, transport, government, and water sectors)
- FCERM (Floor Control and Environmental Risk Management) studies
Your core responsibilities:
- Deliver or support technical oversight of flood risk management services for government, local authorities, private, and major infrastructure clients
- Contribute to innovation within the sector
- Explore new opportunities and engage with diverse stakeholders
Key Activities

Hydraulic Modelling & Reviews
- Work on fluvial and pluvial modelling projects using software like Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, or ICM
- Scoping and developing hydraulic modelling approaches
- Leading or supporting technical reviews of hydraulic models for statutory bodies

Project Delivery
- Developing and writing technical reports and presentations for clients and stakeholders
- Supporting bid preparation and building client relationships

- Commercial & Project Management
- Identifying prospective opportunities
- Project management, commercial oversight, and financial reporting
Key Responsibilities
- Providing technical leadership in flood modelling within teams
- Developing methodologies and maintaining models for client projects
- Collaborating with national hydraulic modelling teams
- Engaging with external clients and internal stakeholders
Requirements & Eligibility
Essential:
- Proven expertise in fluvial and pluvial hydraulic modelling
- Experience in statutory model reviews
- Commercial experience, including project management and bid preparation
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
- Relevant experience in infrastructure, local authority, or national government
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Desirable:
- Chartered status with a relevant body (or commitment to work towards)
- Familiarity with GIS, FCERM, FDRAs (Flood Risk Assessments)
- Knowledge of UK flood risk policy (e.g., NPPF, Technical Advice Note 15)
- Water resources/flood protection hydrology specialisation
