Our Sustainable Water Management Team is seeking Flood Risk Modellers to play a key role in delivering our national programme of flood risk management projects. You’ll contribute—whether as a major expert or a leader—on projects for external and internal clients, including fluvial and pluvial flood modelling.
About the Role
Our national fluvial and pluvial modelling team delivers flood risk assessments and modelling to support:
- FCERM (Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management) studies
- Major infrastructure projects across sectors such as energy, transport, government, and water
- Strategic studies
As a key member of our modelling team, you’ll:
- Collaborate with our national hydraulic modelling team
- Provide technical oversight for flood risk-related services
- Serve government, local authorities, private clients, and major infrastructure stakeholders
- driving innovation in the flood management sector
Core Responsibilities
- Model development & analysis using software like Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, or ICM
- Supporting flood modelling studies across internal teams
- Defining hydraulic modelling approaches and conducting scoping projects
- Conducting or participating in technical reviews of hydraulic models
- Preparing or assisting with technical reports and presentations for clients
- Assisting in business development, including:
- Identifying prospective opportunities
- Leading on proposal preparation
- Supporting project, commercial, and financial management
- Managing client and stakeholder relations

What We’re Looking For
Essential Requirements
You’ll demonstrate or be eager to develop the following:
✔ Proven experience in fluvial and pluvial hydraulic modelling ✔ Technical leadership in flood modelling within a team environment ✔ Experience with delivering model reviews for statutory bodies ✔ Commercial experience, including project management and bid preparation ✔ Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams ✔ Relevant experience in infrastructure projects or working with local authorities/government ✔ Strong client-facing skills—building relationships and driving opportunities ✔ Excellent written and verbal communication ✔ Chartership with a relevant professional body, or a commitment to pursuing it within a defined timeframe
Nice-to-Have Experience
We’d love if you had familiarity with:
- GIS (Geographical Information Systems)
- FCERM (Flood Risk Assessments)
- UK flood risk policies (e.g., National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and Technical Appraisal Note 15 TAN15)
- UK flood estimation methods
