Flood Risk Modellers – Sustainable Water Management Team

Our Sustainable Water Management Team are seeking Flood Risk Modellers to help deliver our national programme of work. Focus on flood risk management projects, where you’ll have the chance to lead and contribute to work for external and internal clients.

About the Team

Our national fluvial and pluvial modelling team delivers flood modelling to support:

  • FCERM (Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management) studies
  • Major infrastructure projects (energy, transport, government, and water sectors)
  • Strategic flood resilience studies

As a key team member, you’ll:

  • Collaborate with our hydraulic modelling team
  • Provide technical oversight for flood risk management projects
  • Offer services for government, local authority, private sector, and major infrastructure clients
  • Drive innovation in the sector

Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Work on fluvial and pluvial modelling projects, including:
    • Experience with software like Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, or ICM
    • Supporting flood modelling studies
    • Developing hydraulic modelling approaches
    • Leading or supporting technical reviews of models
    • Preparing or contributing to technical reports and client presentations

    • Scouting and securing prospective opportunities

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience

Proven ability to:

  • Deliver fluvial and pluvial hydraulic modelling
  • Provide technical leadership in flood modelling
  • Conduct model reviews for statutory bodies
  • Offer project management and bid preparation expertise
  • Foster cross-disciplinary teamwork
  • Work within or deliver projects for infrastructure, local authorities, or national government

Additional Strengths

  • Experience with:
    • GIS
    • FCERM studies
    • Flood Risk Assessments
    • Knowledge of UK flood risk policy (NPPF, TAN15 guidelines)
    • UK flood estimation methodologies
