About the Role

Position:

Transition Co-ordinator – Flying Start Programme

Key Details:

  • Grade: G6 SCP (£28,624 – £31,067)
  • Hours: 37 hrs/month, Mon-Fri
  • Location: Flying Start Barry
  • Funding Duration: Until 31.3.2028

Primary Purpose:

Coordinate a structured, child-centred transition from Flying Start childcare into school, ensuring all supported families benefit from a consistent, clear, and supportive process.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Transition Co-ordination:

    • Design, implement, and maintain a proactive transition framework that identifies and addresses each child’s special needs.
    • Ensure that every child benefiting from Flying Start/2-year-old childcare experiences a seamless, supported transition into school.
  • Partnerships & Collaboration:

    • Build strong working relationships with external childcare providers, schools, and relevant agencies.
    • Ensure uniform transition documentation (led by the coordinator).
    • Conduct regular school visits to foster engagement and dialogue.
  • Wales Early Years Offer Development & Promotion:

    • Champion and refine the Welsh Offer of childcare, enhancing accessibility and awareness.
    • Raise visibility of part-time childcare opportunities for eligible families across the Vale.
  • Monitoring & Reporting:

    • Track and analyse childcare attendance data to identify trends and concerns.
    • Maintain and update statistical records, informing programme improvements.
  • Professional Growth:

    • Engagement in team meetings, training and reflective practice.

About You

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4 years in the Early Years/Childcare sector
  • Fluency in Welsh communications, both spoken and written
  • Proven ability to collaborate with:
    • Parents, colleagues, and partner agencies
    • Staff from educational establishments
    • Multi-disciplinary teams (e.g. health, social care, playgroups)

Compulsory Skills:

  • QCF Level 5 qualification in:
    • Early Years/Social Work/Education or a closely aligned subject.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD)
  • Professionalism & composure, with dependable soft skills
  • Willingness to travel across the Vale between locations as required

Additional Information

  • DBS Check Required: Enhanced clearance, including both adult and child barred list.
