The Vale of Glamorgan is welcoming applications for a role within its Flying Start Programme, a Welsh Government-funded initiative supporting all families to give 0–3-year-olds a Flying Start in life. The programme delivers intensive support services to promote development through:

About The Role

Job Title: Flying Start Childcare Worker Pay: Grade 4 (SCP 6–7) – £25,989–£26,403 pro rata (or £13.47–13.69 per hour) Hours: 35 hours per week (term-time only) Location: Barry Contract Type: Temporary (due to Welsh Government funding until 31 March 2028)

The role is based in one of our four internal childcare settings, which are key to delivering the programme’s high-quality, nurturing early years experience. You will provide learning through play, development opportunities, and seamless care for babies and young children.

As a Flying Start Childcare Worker, you will:

  • Support a fun, inclusive, and stimulating environment for children aged 0–4.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across all childcare settings as needed.
  • Access funded training, including the opportunity to pursue CCLD Level 4/5 in Childcare.
  • Contribute to a progressive team with strong career development opportunities.

About You

** essential requirements:

  • Proven experience working with babies, young children, and families.
  • Knowledge of planning and delivering play-based learning activities for early years.
  • Experience in a crèche or childcare setting, with strong awareness of:
    • Children’s Ireland (CIW) regulated childcare requirements.
    • Support strategies for promoting children’s holistic development.
  • Familiarity with the Key Worker system.
  • Sensitivity, empathy, and adaptability to diverse children’s needs.
  • Ability to work across multiple Flying Start locations as required.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development, NNEB, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Commitment to high standards of childcare aligned with Flying Start objectives.
