Food & Beverage Assistant Manager: Step Onto the Floor
Let's be completely honest. Running a bustling food and beverage operation is brilliant, but it certainly takes stamina. We are looking for an Assistant Manager who genuinely thrives right in the thick of the action.
This is a very hands-on, active role. If your happy place is out on the floor engaging with guests and coaching a team rather than sitting behind a desk, you will feel right at home here. At Village, we are all about genuine connections, warm personality, and creating wonderful experiences for everyone who walks through our doors.
A Realistic Look at the Role
To give you a clear picture of your week, you will be working 40 hours (with a wee bit of flexibility needed when the business is booming). Your time will be split roughly 90% driving the daily energy in our busy Pub & Grill across breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and 10% stepping up to help deliver large Meetings and Events, weddings, or holiday cover.
What We Are Looking For
- The Hospitality Heart: You have chosen hospitality as your career because you love it. You are a real people person with a dynamic, outgoing personality who always wants to make sure guests have a great time.
- A Coaching Mindset: You are culturally aware and brilliant at guiding a younger team. You know how to keep them motivated, moving, and smiling in a fast-paced environment.
- Guest Focus: You anticipate needs naturally. You are a problem solver who handles any hiccups smoothly and immediately, making sure the guest leaves happy.
- Commercial Edge: You understand how a busy venue works. You are sales-driven, know your KPIs, and understand how to protect profit, but never at the expense of a great guest experience.
- The Practical Stuff: A solid understanding of cellar management, kegs, ordering, and scheduling will put you at a massive advantage.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
