Buyer – Food

Central London | Hybrid Working
£50,000 + Bonus + Car Allowance + Excellent Benefits

Are you a commercially driven Buyer with a passion for food and a flair for building successful product ranges? We're looking for an experienced Buyer to join the Food division of a well-established, much-loved retailer, offering the opportunity to make a real impact within a fast-paced and innovative commercial environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a dynamic category, working closely with suppliers and internal teams to deliver market-leading products that delight customers while driving sales, margin and profitability.

The Role

As Buyer you will develop and deliver a commercially successful range strategy, ensuring the right products are sourced at the right price and launched at the right time. You'll combine commercial insight, negotiation expertise and market awareness to create compelling ranges that keep customers coming back.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement category strategies that deliver sales, margin and stock turn targets.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with existing suppliers while identifying and onboarding new supplier opportunities.
  • Negotiate competitive commercial terms to maximise profitability and deliver value for customers.
  • Ensure product availability and successful seasonal launches through effective planning and supplier management.
  • Analyse market trends, customer insights and competitor activity to keep the range fresh, relevant and ahead of the competition.
  • Present category performance, product recommendations and trend insights to senior stakeholders.
  • Manage category budgets and use sales data to identify opportunities for future growth and range development.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver a best-in-class customer proposition.

About You

You'll be an experienced retail Buyer with strong commercial acumen and the confidence to influence both suppliers and stakeholders. You thrive in a fast-moving environment and enjoy using data, market insight and customer trends to make informed buying decisions. We're looking for someone with:

  • Proven buying experience within a retail environment ideally food or FMCG.
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
  • Excellent commercial awareness with the ability to identify growth opportunities.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with confidence interpreting sales and performance data.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced, evolving retail environment.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
