About Bells of Lazonby

At Bells of Lazonby, we’ve built a reputation for excellence in baking since 1946. Independently owned by the Bell family, we blend traditional craftsmanship with large-scale production to deliver high-quality bakery products that grace high-street coffee shops and major supermarkets.

Our portfolio includes cakes, traybakes, pies, tarts, and more—sold across the UK. Two bakeries on-site in Lazonby form the backbone of our operations: a conventional bakery and a dedicated “free-from” bakery, ensuring inclusivity for all dietary needs.

Our success isn’t just down to our products—it’s our people. We foster a collaborative, innovative, and award-winning team where passion for quality, problem-solving, and continuous improvement drive us forward.

Food Process Technologist — The Role

We’re looking for a NPD Process Technologist (or someone with transferable baking or food production experience) to bridge the gap between development and production. If you thrive in a dynamic environment, love puzzle-solving, and enjoy working to tight deadlines with cross-functional teams, this role could be a perfect fit for you.

Collaborating closely with colleagues in NPD, Technical, Production, Sales, Marketing, and Purchasing, your role will focus on:

  • Ensuring seamless transitions from trial production to full-scale bakery production.
  • Using technical skills like Microsoft Systems Packages, Report Writing, and process planning to support success.

This is not a desk job—it’s a hands-on, creative role where innovation, patience, and a love of the product shine through.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Core Responsibilities

As the tech link between idealised product development and practical production, your everyday tasks will include:

  • Setting up and supporting factory trials across both bakery sites to evaluate new ideas.
  • Developing and optimising process methods for successful product launches.
  • Recording and sharing trial results, clearly communicating outcomes to cross-department teams.
  • Ensuring final recipes and production methods meet specifications before product launch.
  • Supporting first-week production and quickly troubleshooting issues remotely.
  • Collecting and analysing quality data across packaging, safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Engaging with customers during on-site trials, guiding them through processes, and exceeding expectations.
  • Identifying continuous improvement opportunities and ways to streamline production.

This role is for a practical planner, someone who enjoys working at a grindstone to turn great ideas into consistently perfect bakes.
