Food Safety & Quality Compliance Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Food Safety & Compliance Leadership

    • Ensure compliance with AIB (American Institute of Baking) and BRC (British Retail Consortium) standards.
    • Drive reductions in Foreign Body and Harm complaints, implementing robust preventive measures.
  • Culture & Integrity

    • Foster a "Food Safety Culture" across the site, ensuring alignment with our Factory in Control ethos.
    • Manage legal compliance, ensuring adherence to all regulatory frameworks.
  • Food Safety Systems

    • Oversee effectiveness of HACCP, TACCP (Threat Vulnerability Assessment & Critical Control Points), and VACCP (Vulnerability Assessment & Critical Control Points).
    • Lead allergen management programs and compliance reviews.
    • Manage food safety non-compliances, including holds and concessions, with decision-making as per PepsiCo UK (PIUK) standards.

  • Corrective Actions

    • Coach Operations Managers, Engineering Managers, and Shift Office Managers (SOMs) to ensure compliance.
    • Proactively identify and address behavioural risks affecting Food Safety.
  • Incident & Shared Learning Culture

    • Promote a shared learning approach to ensure incidents/non-compliance across teams correlate with preventative lessons.
    • Report and disseminate learnings from each area corporately across the UK.
  • Internal & External Communications

    • Serve as key Food Safety communicator, liaising with:
      • UK Sector Quality Manager
      • Global Food Safety Team where relevant.
    • Collaborate closely with Operations Managers, Specialists, and UK Food Safety & Quality Managers.
  • Change & Continuous Improvement

    • Act as Quality & Food Safety Lead (QFS Lead) for capital and commercial projects.
    • Represent the Site in extended leadership meetings, including:
      • Participation in Weekly QCDM reviews.
      • Weekly Safety Gemba attendance (liaising with SOMs, EHS Team, and wider Senior Leadership Team).
      • Deputy for Quality Manager (QM) during their absence.

Requirements

Technical & Qualitative Skills

  • Proven ability to interpret analytical and microbiological results and make timely and effective judgements based on scientific findings.
  • Capability to plan, implement, and follow through on corrective and preventative actions (CAPA).
  • Experience in cross-functional problem-solving, with demonstrated success in coordinating change initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of Food Safety & Quality Systems, including:
    • AIB/BRC standards
    • HACCP, TACCP, VACCP
    • PepsiCo Quality Systems, IPS (Internal Pipe Score), FIC (Food Integrity & Compliance), and QCDM Workshops.
    • Hold and Release Processes.
  • Competency in root cause analysis and implementation of continuing action plans.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and assessing risk.
  • Preference, but not essential: Expertise in regulatory frameworks, including:
    • Environmental health
    • Trading standards
    • Regulatory compliance powers.
