About the Role
Permanent Grade D – £45,091-£53,460 (consultation grade, subject to formal evaluation under the Equal Pay Programme) 36.5 hours per week (able to work outside office hours when required)
Are you passionate about food safety and eager to broaden your experience in a diverse, fast-paced environment? Birmingham City Council's expanding Environmental Health team is seeking three motivated Food Safety Officers to join us.

Responsibilities
As a Food Safety Officer, your core duties will include:
- Undertaking inspections and investigations across a range of food premises.
- Enforcing food hygiene and standards legislation, including issuing notices, collecting evidence, drafting statutory documents, and preparing prosecution files where necessary.
- Ensuring compliance with legal requirements while maintaining strong relationships with residents, businesses, and partner agencies.
- Producing clear, accurate written reports, witness statements, and correspondence.
- Demonstrating strong organisational and time-management skills alongside the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Working effectively both in-person and in confined environments (where food safety inspections are conducted).

Requirements & Key Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must:
- Hold a Higher Certificate in Food Control (mandatory for official controls).
- Be a fully qualified driver with access to a personal vehicle.
- Have practical experience in enforcement, including drafting/enforcing notices, collecting evidence, and preparing statements for prosecution.
- Exhibit exceptional communication skills, including ability to engage sensitively with stakeholders.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office and other IT systems.
