Food Safety Officer/Environmental Health Officer

Overview

The London Borough of Harrow is seeking to appoint a Food Safety Officer/Environmental Health Officer to undertake a vital role in protecting and promoting public health within the borough. The postholder will carry out a full range of statutory enforcement functions to ensure the Council meets its legal obligations in relation to commercial safety, including inspection, enforcement action, education and the provision of professional advice. Working in a customer-facing, front-line capacity, the successful candidate will represent Harrow Council in a variety of often challenging circumstances, exercising sound judgement and professionalism in the execution of their duties.

The role involves a balance of office-based and field-based activity, with approximately 25% to 40% of duties undertaken from an office environment and the remaining 60% to 75% delivered through site visits to premises across the borough. This requires the ability to work independently while carrying appropriate equipment and maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance. As part of a wider Enforcement team, the postholder will operate in accordance with statutory requirements and adhere to all relevant Council policies and procedures, contributing to a consistent and effective service.
