I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You will be the go to person for making the practical Food Tech lessons run smoothly, ensuring surfaces are clean and tidy, and the ingredients are prepared! In this role you will help the students in every step of their cooking journey! Showing young people safe and healthy food practices will be essential in this role. You will get the pleasure of instilling transferable and vital skills of food hygiene to all the students you will assist, and give young chefs all the knowledge necessary to prepare their first meals. Planning and marking is not a part of this role so you will be able to put all your attention on the hands-on (fun) part of Food Technology. Ensuring the students handle kitchen equipment safely and confidently managing class behaviour will be necessary. Whether you are an experienced educator or a culinary enthusiast getting into their teaching career this is an exciting opportunity for you.
