Role Description

This is a freelance FOOTWEAR and DENIM TECHNICIAN role based in the Manchester Area, United Kingdom, with a hybrid work arrangement that allows some work from home. The technician will oversee the technical development of footwear and denim products from concept to production, ensuring fit, construction, materials, and performance meet brand and customer requirements.   • Creating and updating technical specifications
  • Reviewing samples
  • Conducting fittings
  • Collaborating closely with design, merchandising, sourcing, and factory teams to resolve technical issues

The role involves evaluating materials and components, monitoring quality standards, and ensuring compliance with brand guidelines, testing norms, and production timelines. The technician will also support continuous improvement by analyzing returns or quality feedback and recommending design or construction modifications.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical expertise in footwear construction, pattern cutting, fitting, and materials, with experience across multiple footwear categories.
  • Practical knowledge of denim garment construction, wash processes, fits, and fabric performance, including experience with technical specs and size grading.
  • Proficiency in creating and managing technical packs, measurements, and documentation, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to collaborate with design, sourcing, and factory teams, using clear communication to resolve technical issues and maintain quality standards.
  • Experience in factory environments or production settings, with understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control, and lead times.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, methodical approach to sample review and fitting, and confidence in making technical recommendations.
  • Comfort using digital tools for documentation, communication, and data analysis; experience with PLM or similar systems is an advantage.
