Forensic Custody Healthcare Professional
Better Places, Thriving Communities
As a certified nurse or paramedic, you can pursue a career within the criminal justice system, aiding some of society’s most vulnerable individuals. We believe in the right to healthcare for all—placing their health and wellbeing at the heart of our approach to care. We’re looking for individuals eager to deliver exemplary care, take pride in being part of a team that shares our vision, and have a genuine passion for developing clinical, forensic, and broader professional skills.
About the Role
We’re seeking compassionate and skilled candidates to deliver healthcare support to detainees in custody suites, in collaboration with Police and justice system partners.
You’ll work in a dynamic environment where healthcare, security, and clinical expertise intersect. Our team provides round-the-clock care, ensuring the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of detainees while adhering to legal and ethical standards.
Opportunities span multiple custody suites and police force areas. Your role will demand flexibility—balancing day and night shifts—while ensuring continuity of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering ** vysokuality healthcare services** to detainees in custody, following clinical policies, guidance, and legislation.
- Collaborating with police officers, forensic mental health teams, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and ethical care provision.
- Assessing and managing acute and chronic medical and mental health needs under pressure.
- Maintaining accurate records and liaising with external services (e.g., GPs, mental health teams, forensic services).
- Supporting detainees with social care coordination and referrals to appropriate further services.
- Upholding confidentiality, professional conduct, and stimuli standards in a secure, regulated environment.
- Working within a shift pattern covering days, nights, and potentially bank/depth shifts, depending on operational needs.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Registered nurse (RN, RGN, or RMN with dual registration) or paramedic. Required: Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience in a patient-facing role in a clinical setting relevant to emergency or forensic care (e.g., Accident & Emergency, General Practice, Emergency/Mental Health Medicine, Acute Healthcare, Prison Services, or a UK Ambulance Service).
- Expected level: Band 5+ in clinical practice.
- Completed Return to Work (RTW) health questionnaire in the UK.
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in high-stress environments, particularly custody suites where urgency may be required.
- Race flexibility to attend non-base custody suites within assigned Police Force area as required.
- Strong understanding of legal considerations in healthcare (e.g., detections, deprivation of liberty, right to healthcare).
- A patient-centred approach with sensitivity to the unique needs of a detained population (e.g., mental health, vulnerable adults, prisoners).
- Familiarity with risk assessments and safeguarding procedures is preferable.
- Sound clinical/medical judgement particularly in scenarios requiring management without immediate specialist access.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
