Location: HM Prison Ford, Arundel, BN18 0BX Band: 7 Government Group: Registered Psychologist Role Type: Non-rotational, non-operational offender-facing position with line management responsibilities Working Week: 37 hours
About the Role
This non-operational, offender-facing role focuses on applying psychological expertise to reduce reoffending risk and harm. The job involves supporting prisoners, individuals on probation, and staff through assessments, interventions, supervision, and consultancy. Supervision of trainee psychologists is also a critical aspect.
Thepost also requires a commitment to promoting diverse and inclusive working environments as well as being open to engaging within a flexible working structure.
Key Responsibilities
The roleholder will perform the following core functions:
Assessment & Risk Management
- Conduct authoritative risk assessments of prisoners, focusing on harm to self/others and reoffending risk.
- Liaise with teams working on lifer reports, parole assessments, and indeterminate sentence approved prisoner (ISP) evaluations.
- Undertake specialist assessments such as Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork (ACCT) and self-harm risk evaluations.
- Develop strategies and programmes for high-risk offender interventions and treatment management.
Consultancy & Service Development
- Provide psychological advice to senior management teams (SMT) and colleagues on service delivery.
- Collaborate with multi-agency teams, including serving as a "professional witness" in parole board hearings, court proceedings, or mediation settings.
- Lead risk management strategies and align decisions with broader service objectives.
Training, Mentoring & Supervision
- Train and supervise trainee forensic psychologists, ensuring they progress through chartered and registered status.
- Actively promote ="{ Developed Self and Others}" behaviours by delivering continuous learning and appraisal of clinicians.

Research & Programme Delivery
- Conduct clinical research, data analysis, and evidence-based practice within the prison system.
- Deliver or oversee complex programmes and interventions, such as those addressing sexual offences, violence, or specialist offender pathways.
Professional Development & Legal Compliance
- Maintain up-to-date ongoing professional development (CPD) to support effective practice.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) requirements.

Requirements
Professional Compliance & Memberships
- Fully qualified and HCPC registered clinician in forensic or clinical psychology. (Provisional registration pending must be confirmed within 3 months of offer).
- Ability to maintain practices in accordance with HCPC standards.
Technical Skills & Experience
- Proven expertise in applying psychological principles to offender assessment, rehabilitation, and risk management.
- Experience providing clinical supervision to junior psychologists and interventions staff.
- Certifications or training in effective treatment models and best practice (e.g., multinational accreditation or expert domain-specific pathways, e.g., sexual offender, indeterminate sentence, violence prevention).

Additional Requirements
Security
- Ability to undertake proforma baseline personnel security standard checks.
- Enhanced DBS check as required for working with prison populations or government-sensitive data.
Languages
- Mandatory spoken/written English competence at a level appropriate to professional practice.
- (In Wales, Welsh language equivalent may be required.)

The recruitment assesses:
