Job Title – Forest Planner SSSI

Salary – £33,854 per annum

Contract Type – 3 year fixed-term appointment with the possibility of extension or permanency

Hours – 37 hours per week

About the Role

As a Forest Planner, SSSI, you will develop, write, review, and consult on forest planning matters to ensure UKWAS compliance and deliver Forestry England’s strategy. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing Forest Plans, habitat and heritage plans, and supporting management documentation.
  • Ensuring sustainable woodland management in line with UKFS standards.
  • Leading the full review and revision of the New Forest Inclosures Forest Plan, a highly designated landscape with statutory and non-statutory interests and multiple stakeholders.
  • Reviewing the existing plan, developing revision proposals, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Collaborating with ecology, land management, harvesting teams, and external partners to turn policy into real-world delivery.

The role is geographically focused on South Forest District, requiring approximately one-third of working hours outdoors—often independently. Travel across the estate and occasional overnight stays are necessary.

About You

Where You’ll Work

  • Due to the role’s demands, you’ll travel regularly across Forestry England’s South District.
  • Occasional day trips or overnight stays outside the area for meetings.
