The Scope Shape the Future of Sustainable Forestry in Romania At Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), we are redefining how forests are managed globally — balancing environmental protection, social impact, and economic value. Romania is one of Europe’s most strategically important forest landscapes. With increasing regulatory attention, complex ownership structures, and high expectations on governance, FSC is strengthening its presence in the country. We are now looking for a Forestry Manager who combines technical expertise, stakeholder influence, and strategic thinking to drive FSC’s impact in Romania. The Opportunity This is not a purely technical role — it is a high-impact, externally facing position where you will: Expand FSC-certified forest area across Romania Influence policy, market dynamics, and stakeholder alignment Act as a key representative of FSC in the national forest sector Translate strategy into real, measurable impact on the ground You will operate at the intersection of forestry, policy, and market development
Main Roles & Responsibilities Drive Forest Management Growth Develop and execute a national strategy to grow FSC Forest Management certification Build and manage a pipeline of certification opportunities (state, private forests, smallholders) Expand FSC-certified forest area and number of certificate holders Unlock opportunities in group certification and address fragmented ownership structures Lead Stakeholder Engagement Act as FSC’s primary contact for key stakeholders: forest owners, state forest administration, certification bodies, NGOs, and industry Establish and maintain relationships with government institutions (e.g., Ministry of Environment, related parliament committees, Romsilva). Represent FSC in policy dialogues, conferences, and public forums Act as the main contact point for FM-related topics in Romania Standards & Technical Leadership Support implementation and evolution of the FSC Forest Stewardship Standard for Romania Provide technical guidance to stakeholders Coordinate the Forest Stewardship Standard and the Risk Assessment development or revision processes, ensuring chamber balance and stakeholder inclusion Build Capability & Market Awareness Deliver trainings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement initiatives Promote FSC through communication and knowledge sharing Strengthen awareness of FSC value across the sector Collaborate & Influence Internally Work closely with European and global FSC teams Contribute to regional initiatives and strategic priorities Provide insights on risks, opportunities, and market developments Build trust and strong partnership in teams Perform additional tasks as agreed with the National Representative, and the Regional FM Manager, Europe

✔️ Experience 10+ years inforestry, sustainability, certification, or related fields Strong understanding of the Romanian forestry sector and governance landscape Experience engaging with government and industry stakeholders FSC or certification experience is a strong plus ✔️ Skills Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills Ability to combine technical expertise with strategic thinking Project management and execution capability Government engagement experience in the field of forestry Auditing experience is advantage High levelof independence and accountability ✔️ Education & Languages Degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or related field Fluency in Romanian and English
