Forklift Engineer Apprenticeship
We are looking for an enthusiastic person who is looking to learn the skills needed to develop a career as a forklift engineer. This apprenticeship role is an excellent opportunity to combine on-the-job working, excellent training and development and to work for the world's No 1 forklift truck and materials handling manufacturer.
Wage:
£18,500 a year

Hours:
Monday - Friday, hours to be confirmed with the employer. 40 hours a week

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
The role involves learning the skills to be able to service, maintain and repair forklift trucks and other material handling equipment and studying towards an industry-recognised qualification. This is a 3-year programme combining college and workplace learning. As an apprentice, you will be working in one of our centres or at one of our customer sites, working as part of our servicing team. This is what you will be doing:
- Shadowing and working with your mentor and the team to understand materials handling equipment
- Learning about the trucks, how they work and how to fix them
- Block weeks at college where you will learn new skills and take part in both classroom and workshop learning
- Online learning and development with the learning provider

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Apply health and safety procedures and safe systems of work in compliance with regulations and standards relevant to lift truck or powered access machines.
- Obtain and interpret lift truck and powered access machine technical data and repair instructions.
- Use tools, workshop equipment, diagnostic and measuring equipment when carrying out maintenance and repairs.
- Perform preventative maintenance activities on lift truck and powered access machines.
- Perform inspections on lift truck and powered access machines in compliance with Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) regulations.
- Remove and replace mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components.
- Apply diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to diagnose faults on lift truck or powered access machine systems.
- Carry out functional testing and quality checks on repaired lift truck or powered access machine components and systems.
- Carry out repairs and make required adjustments.
- Record or enter information - paper based or electronic. For example, job sheets, risk assessments, equipment service records, test results, handover documents and manufacturers' documentation, work sheets, checklists.
- Check and maintain stock.
- Communicate with others verbally for example, colleagues and stakeholders.
- Prepare and maintain a clean, tidy and safe working area.
- Identify, organise and use resources to complete tasks, in compliance with quality, safety, sustainability and environmental standards and guidance.
- Follow equality, diversity and inclusion procedures.
- Store and maintain tools, workshop equipment, diagnostic and measuring equipment for maintenance and repairs.

- The applicant should hold one of the three desirable qualifications alongside the essential maths and English
- It is essential that applicants are able to travel to the work location, and it is essential that applicants hold a UK driving licence or are working towards this and because of the nature of the job, must be over the age of 18 (for insurance purposes)
