Company Description
Paddington Robotics Limited is a seed-stage London robotics startup led by a Magic Pony co-founder and a team from Amazon and InstaDeep. They are building applied AI and hardware for robots that navigate the chaotic environments of supermarkets and retail stores to assist with physically demanding manual labour.
Job Description
As the first Forward Deployed Engineer at Paddington Robotics Limited, you will bridge the gap between lab-based R&D and real-world supermarket deployments. You will lead the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of robotics on customer sites while collaborating with hardware and software teams to iterate on designs based on field data.
Location
London, UK
Why this role is remarkable
- Join as the first hire in a critical new deployment team, directly shaping how the company scales its technology from the lab to national retail environments.
- Work under the leadership of a Magic Pony co-founder and a high-pedigree technical team from Amazon, InstaDeep, and top-tier universities like Cambridge and UCL.
- Experience immediate real-world impact by deploying cutting-edge AI robotics into live supermarket settings, solving unique edge cases that simulation and research simply cannot replicate.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Lead the end-to-end commissioning, installation, and site-specific setup of robots at customer locations across the UK, ensuring seamless integration into daily operations.

- Collaborate closely with the engineering HQ to replicate field failures, identify patterns of improvement, and drive the iterative development of more robust robotics hardware and AI models.
The ideal candidate
- Possesses a multidisciplinary technical background in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or Robotics with significant hands-on experience debugging both hardware and software systems.
