Forward Deployment Engineer
About the Role
Embark on a transformative journey as a Forward Deployment Engineer at Barclays, where our vision is to design, develop, and improve software using various engineering methodologies. This role delivers business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
This is an Assistant Vice President (AVP) level position reporting into the Glasgow/Knutsford location.
Key Purpose
To design, develop, and enhance software solutions leveraging engineering methodologies to enable scalable, maintainable, and high-performance technology capabilities for Barclays.
Accountabilities
Technical & Development Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver high-quality software solutions, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and optimised performance using industry-aligned languages, frameworks, and tools.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and engineers to:
- Define software requirements
- Devise solution strategies
- Ensure seamless alignment with business objectives
- Participate in code reviews, foster a culture of code quality, and knowledge-sharing.
- Stay updated on industry trends and contribute to technical communitieswithin Barclays.
- Adhere to secure coding practices to protect sensitive data and mitigate vulnerabilities.
- Implement effective unit testing practices for robust code design and reliability.

- Lead cross-functional projects, guiding teams through structured deliverables.
- Identify new directions in projects by integrating cross-functional methodologies.
- Advise Senior Leadership on complex issues, ensuring escalated problems are resolved.
- Risk & Governance:
- Identify risks and mitigate controls across operational activities.
- Develop new policies to enhance governance.
- Take ownership of risk management and control implementation.
- Collaboration & Strategy:
- Engage with other departments to understand business impacts.
- Align with business strategy and execute effectively.

- Analyse multi-source data (internal/external) to innovate solutions.

Must-Have Expertise
- AI/ML Proficiency:
- Develop and deploy AI solutions using:
- LLMs, RAG architectures
- Frameworks: FastMCP, LangChain, LlamaIndex, Hugging Face, Strands
- Protocols: A2A, MCP
- Develop and deploy AI solutions using:
- Full-Stack Development & Python:
- Excel in Python, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), and APIs.
- Financial Domain Knowledge:
- Experience in financial environments (risk, compliance, investment banking).
- Understanding of regulatory considerations and Responsible AI practices.
- MLOps & Productionisation:
- Model deployment, monitoring, evaluation, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Problem-Solving:
- Translate multi-layered business challenges into technical solutions.
- Collaborate directly with business stakeholders to meet production requirements.
