Who can be a Foster Carer?
Becoming a Foster Carer means opening up your home and offering children a safe, supportive and nurturing space where they can flourish toward a brighter future, whether they are with you for a short term or long term.
The essential criteria you will need to meet include:
- Being passionate about making a difference to a child’s life.
- Having the right to work in the UK and being a permanent UK resident.
- Being over 21 years old.
- Speaking fluent English.
- Having a furnished spare room that is not used by anybody else.
- Being committed to undergoing training and development.
- Working in partnership with the team caring for the child/young person.
- Having access to a computer.

- A competitive fostering allowance: As an independent agency and a social enterprise, we offer a highly competitive fostering allowance.
- Paid breaks: Benefit from 14 days paid break annually. We have ‘short break’ carers available to ensure that you can take time off when needed.
- Refer a friend payment: If someone you know and have recommended to us becomes a Foster Carer, you will receive a payment of up to £2,000 (£1,000 for respite carers) as our way of saying thank you for the support you’ve given.
- Birthday Allowance: To help make each child’s birthday feel special, you’ll receive £200 per child to put toward their celebration.
- Festival Allowance: Each year, you’ll receive £200 per child to help you celebrate meaningful festivals together, such as Christmas or other occasions important to your family.
- Welcome payment: Once you have been approved, you will receive a £75 welcome gift as a small gesture of thanks for beginning your fostering journey with us.
- Re-approval Gift: After each re-approval, your Supervising Social Worker will give you a personalised gift to recognise your continued commitment to Foster Caring.
- Blue Light Card: As part of our fostering community, you’ll receive a Blue Light Card, giving you access to a wide range of discounts at high street shops, retailers and leisure spots you can enjoy together.
