Fostering Social Worker
Fostering Worker – Fixed Term Contract
Staffordshire County Council is seeking an experienced Fostering Worker for a fixed-term role to support a growing fostering team in the North of Staffordshire.
About the Role
Staffordshire County Council has a strong commitment to providing quality foster placements for children and young people in care. The Fostering North Team supervises, supports, and works with foster carers—including general carers and Kinship Foster Carers—offering comprehensive backup.
This is a new 12-month fixed-term contract, commencing from the employee’s first day, to support the team following increased fostering placements.
Please note: The Children and Families Department is currently undergoing internal structural reviews which may affect this role. Further details can be discussed with the hiring manager.
Main Responsibilities
In this position, you will:
- Conduct regular supervision, support, and unannounced visits to approved foster carers
- Undertake fostering assessments, including:
- Approval changes
- Special Guardianship Order (SGO) evaluations
- Long-term fostering assessments
- Assessments for approved support carers
- Annual reviews
- Maintain and develop excellent working relationships with children’s teams and professionals to secure positive outcomes for children and young people
- Prioritise foster care stability while upholding safeguarding standards
- Expand foster care capacity to meet children’s needs in Staffordshire

Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will:
- Be a qualified Social Worker with at least 2 years post-qualifying experience
- Possess experience in fostering work or a strong understanding of fostering legislation
- Be registered with Social Work England
- Hold a current UK driving licence and vehicle
- Demonstrate expertise in safeguarding, child welfare legislation, and safeguarding processes
- Show an ability to conduct high-quality, timely assessments, case planning, monitoring, and reviews
- Emphasise experience supporting families, stability, and keeping families together where appropriate
- Exhibit dedication to continuous improvement in fostering and family support
Location & Application Details
This role is based in Staffordshire, with some out-of-county support responsibilities.
Interviews will take place on 6th August 2026 at Staffordshire Place 1, Tipping Street, Stafford.
