NHS England Foundation School Director – Wessex Interim Appointment
About the Role
NHS England (NHSE) is seeking a Foundation School Director to interim support the Wessex Foundation School. This is a niche opportunity for an experienced Foundation Training Programme Director looking to expand their portfolio in educational leadership.
The role is a contract for services assignment, requiring successful candidates to secure written agreement from their Trust for temporary release from clinical duties during the period of appointment, accommodation of which is the responsibility of successful applicants.
Key Responsibilities
The Foundation School Director will report managerially and professionally to the Postgraduate Dean, with core duties including:
- Enhancing Learner Experience
- Overseeing supervision, assessment, and experience for Foundation trainees.
- Ensuring quality engagement with faculty teams to facilitate effective teaching practices.
- Driving improvement in educational outcomes and future-proofing the curriculum.

Workforce Development and Innovation
- Supporting whole-workforce transformation, including multi-professional collaboration.
- Leading the development of curriculum strategies, innovation in learning delivery methods, and workforce well-being initiatives.

Service Delivery and Leadership
- Adapting the Foundation School to align with evolving curricular and service landscape, including integration with health/social care models.
- Ensuring seamless collaboration across a diverse, integrated workforce (NHS, social care, and multi-disciplinary specialisms).
Role Context within NHS England
NHS England (NHSE) operates across the spectrum of NHS priorities:
- Ensuring high-quality care through high-level roles in commissioning, data science, education, cyber security, and strategic transformation.
- Supporting progressive functions, with migration of NHS England’s statutory functions and merging operations into the Department of Health and Social Care (expected completion by March 2025).

Onboarding and Working Arrangement

Current NHS employees selected for this role will undergo an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via Electronic Staff Record (ESR)—this transfers key records (competency status, CSD, leave entitlement prior to joining).

Opt-out at any stage is possible.

Surveillance requirements: 40%+ working time in office for contract-holder.
