Foundation Studies Teacher (Entry to Level 1)

Role Information

Reference: REQ001456

Location: Stroud Campus Post: Part Time (Permanent), Two positions available

Salary & Contract:

  • FTE: Up to £39,291.00/year (dependent on qualifications and experience)
  • Part Time: Up to £31,857.56/year Hours: 30 per week, 4 days (Tuesday–Friday)

About SGS College

Foundation Studies Programme: Aims to equip learners with essential life skills and employability through a structured curriculum. Our team is passionate, dedicated, and committed to achieving Outstanding status (currently classified as Good in the latest inspection).


About the Role

We are seeking a Self-motivated, creative Educator to deliver a high-quality curriculum for Entry to Level 1 learners with SEND and SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health). Key subject areas include:

  • Life Skills
  • Employability
  • English & Maths (functional foundations)

Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Learning Area Manager and in collaboration with tutors, you will:

  • Plan, deliver, and support personalised learning pathways to foster independence and progression.
  • Develop engaging, inclusive teaching methods to address diverse learning needs.
  • Ensure alignment with College standards and awarding body policies.
  • Assess learners fairly, maintain records, and participate in Internal Verification processes.
  • Attend Continuing Professional Development (CPD), including mandatory training.

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential

  • Passionate about teaching and learning, with a commitment to inclusive practice.
  • Experience in working with challenging behaviours, SEND, and SEMH.
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate, influence, and drive team excellence.
  • Commitment to prioritising learner outcomes with rigorous attention to detail.

Beneficial

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
  • Teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE in post-16 education) – Stage 3 full professional qualification required within 2-4 years.
  • GCSE English & Maths Grade C/4+ or functional equivalent.
  • Experience supporting entry-level learners with moderate-to-severe learning disabilities.
  • Background in Further Education, schools, or specialist SEND provision.
