Founding Engineer
MyPholyo (The Portfolio Method). UK, remote friendly. Full time. Reporting to June Angelides MBE, Founder.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for one engineer to take on the whole product, which means the iOS app, the Android app, the web client and the services that sit behind all three. You would be our first engineering hire, and from the day you join you would be the person deciding how this thing gets built.
WHAT WE ARE BUILDING
A growing number of people now earn their living from several things at once. They might do a bit of consulting, sit on a board, teach occasionally and quietly build a company on the side, and while all of that adds up to a decent living, almost none of them can tell you which part is genuinely paying and which is costing them more than it returns. June Angelides MBE has run a portfolio career herself for over a decade, and she started The Portfolio Method to answer that question properly. MyPholyo is the app that turns the answer into something people act on every week rather than think about once a year.
The demand is already there, which is a pleasant sort of problem, and it is the reason we are hiring.
WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOING
You would own the codebase, which covers keeping it healthy, making it better over time and driving new features through it from first sketch to release. You would work directly with June on what gets built and in what order, and because the team is small there is very little sitting between a decision and a shipped change.

Most of the weight sits on the mobile side. We run a Swift app on iOS and a Kotlin and Java app on Android, with a web client and a TypeScript backend behind them, alongside an AI layer built on top of external model providers that we expect to grow over the coming year.
You would not be inheriting a mystery, and you would not be doing this alone. The engineer who architected the applications is staying on as a technical advisor, so you get the thinking behind the decisions as well as the code itself, and you have someone to work through the harder calls with when you decide to change them.
WHO WE THINK THIS SUITS
We are hoping to hear from someone who has looked after real systems for long enough to have formed opinions about them, and who finds the whole picture more interesting than any single layer of it. If you have shipped and maintained native mobile work and you are comfortable in TypeScript, you are in roughly the right place.
Nobody arrives fluent in every part of this, and we are not expecting you to. Judgement, curiosity and an appetite for owning something matter considerably more to us than a tick in every box, so if you are strong across most of it and genuinely interested in the rest, please do get in touch.

WHAT IS IN IT FOR YOU
There are very few roles where a single engineer shapes a product across three platforms with a direct line to the founder. You would be joining early enough to set the standards rather than inherit them, with an advisor who wants you to do well and a founder with real reach in the UK tech ecosystem behind you. The work you do will be in front of users within days rather than quarters.
COMPENSATION
Base salary starts at £85,000 and goes up with experience, alongside a meaningful equity stake with standard four year vesting and a one year cliff. We would rather be open about the numbers early than have either of us discover a mismatch three conversations in, and there is room to talk about the balance between cash and equity if you have a preference either way.
