Company Description
Goodley is building an AI-powered compliance operating system designed specifically for FCA-regulated firms.
Compliance today runs on people, spreadsheets, and after-the-fact reviews. It's slow, it doesn't scale, and the bar has moved from "show us your policy" to "prove continuously, that you're doing what you said." Firms have to work out what rules apply to them, prove they're meeting them, and hold evidence solid enough to make sure they can carry on trading and avoid fines.
We believe this can be done better through a software solution, but it's not an easy one to build. "Mostly right" is a failure in Compliance, and that's not something we can afford our system to provide. Goodley is looking for somebody who's up for the challenge to build a system that can keep up with rules that never stop changing.
Role Description
Goodley is seeking a dedicated and innovative Founding Engineer for a full-time, on-site role in London. You would be among the first engineers, building the core platform alongside the Founder and the rest of the founding team (2 x Engineers & Compliance Lead).

As a Founding Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and scaling our AI-powered compliance platform. You will collaborate closely with the founding team to establish the technical vision, develop core systems, and implement engineering best practices. Responsibilities include:
- Writing high-quality code
- Designing backend and frontend systems
- Optimizing product performance
- Contributing to the overall growth of the product and business
This means not features on the edge of someone else's system, but the actual the system. You're across the stack, we need somebody that thinks in systems rather than tickets, and drawn to problems where the right design isn't always obvious. If you need the spec handed to you, this isn't the role for you.

Stack: TypeScript, Next.js, Postgres, AWS. Pre-revenue, tiny team, high ownership - you'll shape the architecture, not inherit it.
Qualifications
- Frontend and backend development skills, including experience with modern programming languages, frameworks, and technologies
- Proficiency in building and deploying scalable systems and APIs
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and optimization skills
- Experience with AI, machine learning, or data processing systems is a plus
- Familiarity with compliance-related technologies and solutions is preferred
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills to collaborate with a founding team
- Passion for creating technology that has a meaningful impact on business operations
