Founding Growth Lead

A well-funded early-stage consumer marketplace is hiring a Founding Growth Lead to help scale a high-frequency app across Africa, starting with food delivery before expanding into adjacent consumer services.

The company has raised a significant seed round from leading US investors and is building the kind of consumer infrastructure that has already worked at scale in markets like Southeast Asia and Latin America. This is an unusually high-ownership role for someone who wants to help build a category-defining company from an early stage.

The role is remote from the UK and works directly with the founders.

Ideal Candidate

This is best suited to a sharp, analytical growth operator with strong education and experience in consumer startups, marketplaces, delivery, mobility, quick commerce, consumer fintech, or app-based businesses. You do not need to have been a formal “Head of Growth” already. The right person is likely to be a high-agency operator who has personally driven growth, expansion, or acquisition in a fast-moving consumer environment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You will own growth strategy and execution across customer acquisition, retention, city launches, paid channels, referrals, partnerships, and market expansion. This is not a brand-only marketing role. You need to be comfortable with CAC, ROAS, funnel conversion, retention, app installs, GMV, growth experiments, and marketplace dynamics.

Strong fit if you have:

  • 4+ years’ experience in growth, strategy, operations, expansion, or marketing at a high-growth consumer startup
  • Strong academic background, ideally from a top UK, US, or international university
  • Experience in B2C marketplaces, delivery, mobility, quick commerce, consumer fintech, or app-based businesses
  • Hands-on ownership of customer acquisition, retention, paid growth, growth experiments, market launches, or expansion strategy
  • Strong analytical ability and comfort owning commercial metrics
  • Appetite for building in emerging markets
  • High agency, low ego, and a bias towards execution

Relevant backgrounds could include companies such as Deliveroo, Uber Eats, Bolt, Getir, Just Eat, Glovo, Zomato, Gopuff, HelloFresh, Revolut, Monzo, Wise, Cleo, Zilch, Fever, Multiverse, Entrepreneur First-backed companies, or strong early-stage consumer startups.

Compensation

Compensation is £110k to £135k base, plus equity and performance bonus.

This is a rare fit for someone who is probably too entrepreneurial for a normal growth role, but not looking to disappear into founder poverty just yet.
