The Amara Centre is seeking a Founding Trustee & Board Secretary
The Amara Centre is seeking a Founding Trustee & Board Secretary to help establish a new UK-based organisation improving access to cancer care and support for people affected by cancer in Ghana. Help shape our governance and build a charity with purpose and impact.
What difference will you make?
As Founding Trustee & Board Secretary, you will help establish the governance systems that will support The Amara Centre as it grows.
- Your contribution will help ensure that Board meetings are well organised, decisions are properly recorded, and governance processes are clear, transparent and effective.
- By helping establish good governance from the beginning, you will play an important role in building a charity that is accountable, well managed and trusted by the people and communities it serves.
You will work closely with the Chair, Founder and fellow trustees to help develop policies, maintain governance records and support the Board in making informed strategic decisions.
As The Amara Centre develops, your work will contribute directly to the organisation's ability to build partnerships, strengthen fundraising, support people affected by cancer and improve access to cancer care and support in Ghana.
This is an opportunity to help shape not only what The Amara Centre does, but also how it operates. The governance structures you help establish will provide a strong foundation for the organisation's future and its long-term impact.
What are we looking for?
We are seeking an individual who shares The Amara Centre's commitment to improving access to cancer care and support for people affected by cancer in Ghana.
The ideal candidate will be organised, dependable and committed to helping establish strong governance from the earliest stages of the organisation. Previous experience as a trustee, company secretary, charity secretary, board secretary or in another governance, compliance or administrative leadership role would be highly valuable, although we welcome applicants with relevant transferable experience.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What will you be doing?
The Amara Centre is establishing its founding Board of Trustees and is seeking a Founding Trustee who will also serve as Board Secretary during this important stage of development.
This role will play a key part in helping establish effective governance and ensuring the Board operates efficiently from the outset. Working closely with the Chair, Founder and fellow trustees, you will help coordinate Board meetings, support good governance practices, maintain accurate records and contribute to the development of policies, procedures and governance documents.
As a newly forming organisation, our current focus is on building strong foundations, preparing for charity registration, establishing effective governance systems and supporting the organisation's long-term development.
Over the coming years, the Board will help guide strategic planning, fundraising, partnerships and the development of practical cancer support programmes. The Board Secretary will help ensure that Board decisions are well documented, governance processes remain organised and the Board continues to operate effectively as the organisation grows.
This is an opportunity to help shape a new organisation from the beginning. You will not simply be joining an established Board—you will be helping create one and influencing how it operates in the years ahead.
We are building a Board that values collaboration, openness and thoughtful decision-making. As Founding Trustee & Board Secretary, you will make an important contribution to creating an organisation built on integrity, transparency and good governance while helping improve access to cancer care and support for people affected by cancer in Ghana.
