Foundry Operative – Melting Shop (6-Month Contract)
FOUNDRY OPERATIVE – MELTING SHOP
Location: South Queensferry Salary: £27,643 + £3,440.64 pro rata Hours: Monday to Thursday, 06:00 – 14:00 & Friday 06:00 – 11:00
Progress Rail Services UK is seeking a hands-on, safety-focused team player to join their Melting Shop team in a challenging and rewarding 6-month contract role.
About the Role
As a Foundry Shop Operative, you’ll play a critical role in maintaining a safe, efficient melting shop environment. The successful candidate will ensure all operations align with company safety standards, quality systems, and risk assessments, contributing to a high-performing production environment.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Maintaining a safe and tidy working environment, compliant with company and legal regulations.
- Operating within the Company Quality Assurance System, supporting ongoing process improvements.
- Solving production issues and driving continuous improvement across all operational areas.
- Managing workloads effectively to meet business and personal objectives.
- Strict adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures.
- Accurate use of Time & Attendance systems.
- Meeting customer needs professionally while upholding high-quality standards.
- Reducing non-conforming errors through attention to detail and right-first-time practices.
- Applying a clean-as-you-go approach while maintaining organised Work In Progress (WIP) and stock areas.
- Ensuring plant and equipment remain safe and functional, reporting defects promptly.
- Demonstrating flexibility and willingness to receive training in additional production areas.
- Performing other reasonable duties as requested by the business.

Ideal Candidate Profile
Progress Rail are looking for:
- Knowledge of Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality regulations
- Reliability to meet deadlines and targets under pressure
- A strong commitment to being a team player
- Good physical fitness, ability to operate manual equipment throughout shifts
- ** Exceptional attention to detail** to ensure consistent output and safety
