Company Description

Rukkel Educare Limited is a Belfast-based educational support company dedicated to helping children thrive academically and personally. We provide Transfer Test preparation, Ks1&2 tutoring, educational consultancy, intervention programmes, tailored learning support for young learners, and afterschool clubs.

Our mission is to build confidence, inspire achievement, and empower brighter futures through practical, outcomes-focused educational solutions. Rukkel Educare works with families, schools, and community partners to support children with structured learning, academic progress, and personal development.

We are now developing our EdTech platform designed to support pupils, parents, tutors, and schools. Team members will contribute to a mission-driven environment where innovation, child-centred learning, and educational impact are at the heart of the work.

Role Description

This is a freelance/contract role based in Belfast, with hybrid or remote flexibility for the right candidate. Rukkel Educare is seeking a Fractional CTO / Senior Full-Stack Developer to lead the next stage of development for our growing EdTech platform.

The role involves shaping the technical vision, designing the system architecture, and developing robust, secure, and scalable software solutions to support pupils, parents, tutors, teachers, and schools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical direction and development roadmap for the app.
  • Review and improve the existing app architecture and codebase.
  • Design secure, scalable systems for pupils, parents, teachers, schools, and admin users.
  • Build and improve user dashboards, codes, tracking, tests, and reporting.
  • Ensure pupil progress is saved to individual sign-in accounts across devices.
  • Strengthen authentication, role-based access, permissions, and database security.
  • Work with Supabase/PostgreSQL, RLS policies, user roles, and structured data models.
  • Support product decisions around school subscriptions, reporting, and future SaaS growth.
  • Communicate technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Strong full-stack software development experience, including modern front-end frameworks, back-end development, APIs, databases, and integrations.
  • Experience with React, TypeScript, Supabase, PostgreSQL, authentication, and role-based access would be highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, database design, and scalable SaaS platforms.
  • Experience designing secure multi-user systems with different access levels, such as student, parent, teacher, and admin roles.
  • Proven product development experience, from concept and technical planning through to implementation, testing, deployment, and iteration.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, prioritisation, stakeholder communication, and delivery within agreed timelines.
  • Previous experience as a CTO, technical lead, senior developer, software architect, or similar role.
  • Understanding of data protection, security best practice, and compliance considerations for educational or child-focused platforms.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical matters in clear, accessible language.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in EdTech, assessment platforms, school systems, tutoring platforms, or mission-driven organisations would be an advantage.

The ideal candidate will be someone who understands both technology and product strategy. They should be able to assess what has already been built, identify what needs strengthening, and help turn the platform into a secure, professional, school-ready product.

Initial work may begin with a paid technical audit, followed by a potential build sprint or longer-term fractional CTO arrangement.
