HSBC UK is the leading market bank providing franchise funding, with c6,500 franchise clients, and a c£1bn lending book. We are currently seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the franchise team in the role of Franchise Director. The Franchise Director leads HSBC’s Franchise/Consumer sector coverage, owning key third-party Franchisor relationships and building trusted connections with priority-brand franchisees. Working closely with Relationship Managers across the bank, the role drives origination and delivers coordinated, risk-managed client solutions through a strong internal and external network. Your key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to): Act as senior point of contact for key Franchisors and sector bodies, building trusted partnerships, maintaining a strong market profile, and identifying opportunities to deepen collaboration and drive mutual growth Proactively engage and deepen relationships with leading franchisees across the bank’s priority brands, building rapport quickly, understanding their growth ambitions and funding needs, and positioning HSBC as their long-term banking partner Establish close, productive working relationships with Relationship Managers across CMB and relevant partner teams, acting as a connector to share sector insight, originate opportunities, and coordinate seamless client coverage Delivery of high impact sector leading events, including the Franchise team’s flagship client event ‘Meet the Brands’, using market insight and Franchisor relationships to develop content which meets client appetite and risk standards Identify, shape and progress new-to-bank and existing client opportunities across the Franchise/Consumer ecosystem, leveraging Franchisor partnerships and RM relationships to build a high-quality pipeline Partner with RMs and credit teams to ensure opportunities are well-structured, risks are understood and articulated, and proposals meet HSBC’s risk appetite and policy requirements Develop a strong internal and external profile as a Franchise sector expert, delivering timely market intelligence, competitor insight and client propositions to support coverage teams in strengthening client engagement and differentiating HSBC Ensure activity is conducted in line with applicable policies, procedures and conduct standards, escalating issues appropriately and promoting a strong risk and control culture The ideal candidate for this role will have: An interest in and keeps close to the latest developments across the Franchise/Consumer sector, with a sharp understanding of the competitive landscape to spot opportunities early, build client rapport quickly, and help HSBC create sustainable competitive advantage through proactive origination Builds rapport quickly and develops trusted relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders (including Franchisors and priority-brand franchisees), aligning interests and managing expectations. Communicates complex information clearly and concisely, tailoring messages to the audience to influence decisions and drive timely outcomes Thrives in a fast-paced environment, confidently managing multiple workstreams and competing deadlines with excellent planning, organisation and time management—while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and momentum A robust understanding of commercial lending, risk assessment, cashflows, working capital and cashflow lending—paired with strong business development instincts to originate, structure and progress opportunities responsibly Strong business acumen and commercial awareness, including economic, cultural and regulatory considerations, using this insight to deepen client relationships and identify growth opportunities Experience with relevant systems (e.g., CARM, DPC, CME) and working knowledge of CMB policies and would be advantageous, supporting efficient execution and strong risk stewardship This is a hybrid role that can be based at any UK Commercial Centre. There is a requirement to travel nationally on a regular basis for client meetings, events, and conferences, including overnight stays and occasional international travel, so it is important that the successful candidate can travel frequently.
