Switch the Play Foundation
The Switch the Play Foundation is the UK's only charity dedicated to supporting athletes to successfully transition into life beyond sport. A key part of our athlete support offer is our Psychological Care Pathway - an independent, confidential service providing athletes with access to specialist psychological support during periods of challenge, change and transition.
We recognise that many athletes do not choose when their sporting careers come to an end. Retirement may result from injury, deselection, illness or other unforeseen circumstances, and can have a significant impact on wellbeing and identity. Our Psychological Care Pathway plays a vital role in supporting athletes through these experiences, helping them navigate change and build positive futures beyond performance sport.
We are seeking a qualified, HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist to join our team of Associate Practitioners. This is a paid associate position, with work offered on an hourly basis according to demand. Experience working with athletes, within high-performance sport, or across sporting performance pathways is highly desirable.
Role Overview
As an Associate Clinical Psychologist, you will also become a valued Switch the Play TeamMate - part of a trusted network of specialists committed to delivering exceptional, person-centred support to athletes. Being a TeamMate means more than providing clinical expertise; it means working collaboratively, sharing learning, supporting fellow practitioners and contributing to a culture built on professionalism, compassion and continuous development.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
