About the Role

We are seeking a freelance LED Video Technician based in Barnet, with responsibility for the setup, operation, and maintenance of LED video walls and video systems for high-profile live events.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Event Tasks

  • Assemble and rig LED displays per production specifications.
  • Configure video processors and control systems, ensuring correct signal routing between cameras, projectors, playback devices, and video conferencing platforms.
  • Conduct pre-event testing to validate system functionality and identify potential issues.
  • Prepare all equipment according to company and industry safety standards.

Live Event Execution

  • Operate LED video walls and related systems during live events, maintaining signal integrity and visual quality.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues under pressure when they arise—LED systems, control software, or signal routing.
  • Collaborate closely with lighting, sound, and staging teams to sync video systems with overall production requirements.
  • Follow event production plans and liaise with technical directors for real-time adjustments.

Post-Event Tasks

  • Efficiently de-rig equipment, ensuring it is returned to a useable state for future hire.
  • Clean, inspect, and transport equipment safely and securely to storage or the next event location.

Additional Requirements

  • Commit to a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends in line with event schedules.
  • Travel region-wide (and nationally/overnationally, as necessary) for event assignments.

Requirements

A strong candidate for this freelance role will possess:

Technical Knowledge & Experience

  • Proficient handling of LED video walls and associated systems, including:
    • Video signal flow management.
    • Switching systems (Roland).
    • Media servers and mapping software (Resolume).
  • Hands-on experience with video conferencing platforms (e.g., vMix) and their live-event integration.
  • Familiarity with basic principles of lighting bashing and its interaction with LED displays for optimal visual impact.

Workplace & Team Skills

  • Proven experience working in live events, AV, or technical production environments. Prior experience with London venues or production firms is a bonus.
  • Physical capability to safely handle and rig equipment, including awareness of rigging protocols and safety measures.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work confidently in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Can adapt to fast-paced, dynamic environments with minimal guidance.

Flexibility & Attendance

  • Willingness to take on a quantifiable commitment—minimum 10-hour calls per event.
  • Open to flexible working hours, including evenings and weekends, as well as additional travel.
  • Freelance status preferred (paid by the hour); experience working independently aligns well with this role.

Pay Rate
