Software Engineer II (Contract) | Manchester | £77/hr | Outside Employment via Independent Contractor (Inside Scope: Under IR35)

💷 Rate: £77 per hour

We're seeking an experienced Software Engineer II to join a leading global technology organisation on a contract basis. This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-scale applications, services, infrastructure, and engineering solutions within a modern software development environment.

About the Role

As a Software Engineer II, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software solutions while contributing across the full software development lifecycle. You'll collaborate closely with Product Owners, Engineers, and stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and enhance software applications using appropriate development languages and technologies.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and reusable code following engineering best practices.
  • Deliver high-quality automated testing alongside production code.
  • Take ownership of applications and services from development through production support.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and operational metrics.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents, conducting root cause analysis where required.
  • Contribute to architectural discussions and technical solution design.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across processes, systems, and engineering practices.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Required Experience

  • 3–5 years' experience in software engineering.
  • Strong experience building and delivering software applications.
  • End-to-end system ownership experience.
  • Knowledge of software systems design and architecture.
  • Experience supporting production environments and incident management.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Passion for software quality, automation, and continuous improvement.

Additional Information

  • Participation in an on-call rotation may be required.
