Job Title: Freelancer Studio Engineer

Location: Shoreditch, London, United Kingdom (no Hybrid/Working from home Option)
Salary: £25-£35 p/hour depending on experience. When required, it will be a minimum of at least 3 hours at a time.
Start date: As soon as possible/when needed
Reports to: Studio Manager

We're passionate about delivering high-quality podcasts and helping our clients grow their audiences through expert production and strategic podcast marketing.

Job Description

We're looking for a versatile and reliable Freelance Studio Engineer to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced studio environment, has strong technical expertise, and enjoys working closely with clients to deliver a seamless recording experience.

As a Freelance Studio Engineer, you'll play a key role in ensuring our studios operate efficiently while supporting the production of premium audio and video podcasts. From preparing studios and operating recording equipment to troubleshooting technical issues and assisting clients throughout their sessions, you'll help maintain the high standards our clients expect.

Required Experience

  • Experience running podcast and/or interview recording setups in a client-facing production environment.
  • Experience working with clients and production companies to a professional standard.
  • Experience working independently on productions while confidently managing client relationships.
  • Experience with data management, media organisation, and file workflows.
  • Good working knowledge of Sony FX3 and FX6 camera systems.
  • Good working knowledge of the Midas M32 digital mixing console or similar professional audio desks.
  • Good working knowledge of Godox lighting systems or equivalent professional lighting equipment.
  • Solid working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Physically capable of independently handling light lifting, equipment setup, and studio preparation.

Bonus Experience

  • Understanding of advanced camera and lighting techniques, including Cine EI/Log workflows and picture profiles.
  • Understanding of advanced audio techniques, including EQ, compression, and dynamics processing.
  • Experience using Riverside for remote podcast recordings.
  • Experience using vMix or other live streaming and live production platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, test, and reset podcast studios before and after each recording session.
  • Operate cameras, audio equipment, and lighting to deliver high-quality podcast recordings.
  • Welcome clients, guide them through the recording process, and provide a professional studio experience.
  • Monitor audio and video quality throughout recording sessions, identifying and resolving technical issues as they arise.
  • Configure and operate Sony camera systems, professional audio desks, and studio lighting equipment.
  • Manage media ingestion, file naming, data backups, and project organisation following internal workflows.
  • Perform routine maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of studio equipment to ensure reliable operation.
  • Maintain clean, organised, and client-ready studio spaces at all times.
  • Collaborate with producers, editors, and other engineers to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Support remote podcast recordings using platforms such as Riverside when required.
  • Assist with live productions and livestreams using platforms such as vMix when required.
  • Set up and pack down equipment for in-house and occasional on-location productions.
  • Keep accurate records of technical issues and have a good understanding of tech to be able to fix them.
  • Work within the existing Studio Team to learn, train, and develop.
  • Represent the company professionally, delivering excellent customer service and building positive relationships with clients.
