We are currently recruiting for an experienced Freelance Soft Wovens and Jersey Designer to join a busy and creative design team on a freelance basis. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented designer with a strong background in soft wovens and jersey, creating commercially successful daywear dresses and tops for leading supermarkets and Primark.

The successful candidate will have an excellent eye for trend, strong commercial awareness, and the ability to work at pace, developing exciting collections that meet customer and market demands.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design and develop commercially successful soft wovens and jersey collections across dresses and tops.
  • Research and interpret seasonal fashion trends, translating them into customer-focused product ranges.
  • Create innovative print, colour, and handwriting stories that are trend-led and commercially relevant.
  • Build cohesive collections from concept through to final design.
  • Work closely with the wider design and product teams to ensure collections meet customer briefs and critical path deadlines.
  • Attend customer meetings, confidently presenting design concepts and responding to feedback.
  • Source fabrics, trims, and design inspiration to support new product development.
  • Ensure all designs are commercially viable and aligned to customer requirements.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of creativity and attention to detail.

  • Previous experience designing soft wovens and jersey within a high street supplier or retailer.
  • Strong experience designing daywear, particularly dresses and tops.
  • Excellent commercial awareness with a strong understanding of current and emerging fashion trends.
  • Confident creating print, colour, and seasonal trend stories.
  • Good knowledge of fabrics, garment construction, and the product development process.
  • Able to work independently and manage workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills with experience presenting to customers.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing relevant commercial design work is essential.
